Tennis Captures Spring Break Opener
Over Cardinals

The Youngstown State men's tennis team opened up the
spring break trip with a win
knocking off Wesleyan University 6-1
at the Lake Sylvan Tennis Center on
Sunday morning. For the fourth
straight match the Penguins have
swept the doubles competition. Tom Barth and Scott Kathary
teamed up at No. 1 singles to beat
Tallen Todorovich and Jack Rooney
9-8 (7). Jason Trapp and Ryan Trapp
edged Pauri Pandian and Matthew
O'Connell 9-7. Brian Meek and Diego
Cerzosimo finished the sweep
defeating Alejandro Alvarando and
Max Schenkein 8-3.
In singles action, Kathary beat Rooney 6-4, 7-5 in the
No. 2 spot. Diego Cerzosimo defeated
Paul Gerdes 6-4, 6-3. No. 4 Brian
Meek stopped Michael Frank 6-3, 6-2.
Ryan Trapp beat O'Connell 7-6 (5),
6-1 and Jason Trapp defeated
Alvarando 6-4, 6-4. The Cardinals
lone point came in the No. 1 spot as
Todorovich beat Barth 1-6,
2-6.
Head Coach Eric Ronan said that the
team played its first outdoor match
of the season very well.
"I'm
looking forward to see how the team
plays the rest of the matches this
week," said Ronan.
The
men's tennis team will play again
tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. as they
face Colby-Sawyer College. |
