Men's Tennis: Kathary Picks up Wins at No. 1
Singles and Doubles in St.
Bonaventure Invitational
St. Bonaventure, N.Y. --
The Youngstown State men's tennis team opened its
2007 fall campaign at the St. Bonaventure
Fall Classic. The invitational got
underway on Friday
and wrapped up with championship
play on Sunday.
Senior Scott Kathary beat Duquesne's
Michael Ortega in the championship
round at No. 1 singles Kathary also
joined teammate Ryan Trapp to go
undefeated at No. 1 doubles
On the first day of action, Kathary opened up playing Duquesne's Alex
Mast. Kathary claimed the 6-4, 6-2
win. Kathary and Trapp teamed up in
the No. 1 spot at doubles to
knock-off St. Bonaventure's
Victor Lecina and Jonathan Luce, 9-8

Kathary lost
to
St. Bonaventure's
Diego Valdenegro on the
second day of the invitational, but
once again picked up the win at
doubles with Trapp.
Kathary and Trapp concluded the
weekend with a perfect record of 3-0
at doubles after beating
Rasner and Ortega 9-8, 7-5.
Kathary also
defeated Duquesne's Ortega at No. 1
singles,6-3,
6-7 (7-3) 7-6, in a hard fought
battle for first place.
The men's tennis team
will play again on September 28-29
at Valparaiso University. |
