Green Bay Gets
Past Women's Tennis 4-3 in First
Round of HL Tournament
Indianapolis, Ind.-- The
No. 5 seed Youngstown State women's
faced the No. 8 seed Green Bay on
Friday afternoon in the first round
of the Horizon League Tennis
Championship. The Penguins spilt
the singles matches, but dropped the
doubles point in the 4-3 loss to the
Phoenix.
Hannah Patten
and Irean Lanc picked up the 8-2 win
at No. 3 singles, while Green Bay
earned the wins at No. 1 and 2
doubles to take the early lead.
In singles
action, Tanisha Welch, Michelle
Fuleky and Kelly Culbertson each won
their matches in straight sets.
Welch beat Kelly Stadum 6-2, 6-2 in
the No. 2 spot. Fuleky defeated
Callee Conda 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 and
Kelly Culbertson easily downed Kari
Petrashek 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth
spot.
Lanc battled
with Laura Bartingale in the No. 3
spot to three sets but fell 3-6,
6-2, 6-1. Emily Thayer also lost a
tough match dropping the second set
tie-breaker 7-6 (7-4).
The women's
tennis team will play the second
round of
the tournament tomorrow morning
against No. Valparaiso. Match time
is set for 10 a.m. |
