Women's Tennis
Picks Up 4-3 Win over St.
Bonaventure
St. Bonaventure, N.Y. --
The Youngstown State women's team
battled St. Bonaventure with just
four players in the starting line-up
and still came up with the 4-3 win
on Sunday afternoon. The Guins won
four of the singles matches to
secure the victory and improve to an
overall record of 2-4.
St.
Bonaventure started the match off by
picking up a win at No. 1 doubles.
Anna Perevenztseva and Yolanda
Callaghan teamed up to beat Anna
Volkova and Kelly Culbertson 8-3.
YSU came back at the No. 2 spot to
beat Vanessa Rumpel and Maria
Barousse 8-3. However, due to YSU
defaulting at No. 3, the doubles
point went to St. Bonaventure.
The Bonnies
picked up two points automatically
with YSU's default at No. 5 and 6
singles, but the Penguins did not
let that stop the team. Volkova,
Welch, Culbertson and Lanc each won
their matches in an impressive
fashion to lift the Guins past St.
Bonaventure by a one point win.
YSU will look
for another win next Saturday on the
road against Ball State. |
