Women's Tennis
Falls in Spring Opener to Xavier,
6-1

The Youngstown State women's tennis
team hosted Xavier University in the
spring season opener on Saturday
evening. Anna Volkova
picked up the 'Guins only point by
defeating Aylin Seyalioglu 6-2, 6-4
in the No. 1 singles spot.
Volkova also joined Emily Thayer at
No. 1 doubles to earn the 8-4 win
over Kara Courtney and Tifanie Treece.
Sophomores Kelly Culbertson and
Tanisha Welch dropped their doubles
match 8-4 while Hannah Patten and
Irena Lanc lost 8-1 in the No. 3
spot.
After picking up the double point,
Xavier went on to secure the victory
by winning five of the six singles
matches. Thayer lost a close
match to Treece, 7-6, 7-6, at No. 2. Kaitlyn Zinn
beat Welch, 6-4, 6-0 in the
No. 3 spot. Lanc dropped her match
to Jill Durco 6-4, 6-4. Culbertson
fell 6-4, 6-1 to Jeanette Feider and
Patten lost to Kelsey Kinnard 6-0,
6-4.
The women's tennis team will travel
to Toledo to play the Rockets at 6
p.m. on Saturday evening. |
