Chicago State
Slips Past Men's Tennis, 4-3
Chicago, Ill.--
The men's tennis team played the
first match of the spring
break trip against Chicago State on
Monday morning. Chicago State had to
forfeit at No. 6 singles and No. 3
doubles, but managed to win three
singles matches and win the doubles
point to earn the 4-3 victory over
the Penguins.
Tariq Ismail and Robert Emig each
picked up wins at singles for YSU.
Ismail won at No. 2 by a score of
6-0, 6-2 while Emig defeated Briano
Molinaro, 6-0, 6-0 in the five slot.
Chris Leson picked up YSU's third
point by the Cougars forfeiting at
the No. 6 spot.
Chicago State won the other three
singles matches and with the help of
the doubles point the team just got
past YSU to earn its first win of
the season.
Leson and Ismail lost a close
doubles match by a score of 9-8
(3-0) at No. 1 while Patrick Hamning
and Michael Kathary dropped their
match at No. 2 singles 8-5.
The Penguins will play the next
match of spring break against
Horizon League opponent Green Bay on
Wednesday at 4 p.m. |
