Men's Tennis
Falls in Close Match to Detroit, 4-3
Southfield, Mich. -- The
men's tennis team picked up three
wins at singles against Detroit, but
the Titans earned the early doubles
point and three wins at singles to
pull out the 4-3 victory. Steve
D'Angelo, Robert Emig and Chris
Leson earned the Guins three points
and Tariq Ismail lost a hard-fought
battle in three sets on Saturday
night at the Franklin Athletic Club.
D'Angleo's win came over David
Stabley in the No. 3 spot by a score
of 6-3, 6-2. Emig won his
match with Nick Tolomei 6-4, 6-2 at
No. 5 and Leson downed Gino
McCathney 6-1, 6-3 in the sixth
slot. Ismail came out strong winning
the fist set 6-2 over Dustin
Goldenberg, but could not hold onto
the lead dropping the next set 6-3
as well as the third set tiebreaker.
At No. 1 singles, Michael Kathary
lost 6-3, 6-2 and at No. 3 Patrick
Hamning fell 6-1, 6-1
The men will be back in action
on Satruday to play the first home
match of the spring season against
St. Bonaventure. Match time is set
for 6 p.m. at the Boardman Tennis
