Men's
Tennis Upsets No. 4 Wright State
4-2 in HL Championship Play
Indianapolis,
Ind. -- The men's tennis team
defeated Wright State 4-2 in day two
of the Horizon League Tennis
Championships. The Penguins had lost
to Wright State 7-0 in the regular
season but on Saturday afternoon the
team upset the Raiders in dramatic
fashion. YSU lost the early doubles
point then went on to win four
singles matches and advance to play Valpo Sunday morning. The two
teams will square off at 9:00 a.m.
for fifth place in the league.
The Raiders
swept the doubles matches 8-6, 9-8
(6) and 8-5 to enter singles play
with the 1-0 lead. At singles the
Guins came back to win four singles
only giving up one point to the
Raiders. Tariq Ismail beat Jan
Alafriz 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot.
Steve D'Angelo downed Byron Wowchuck
6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4. Rob Emig won
his match 6-0, 6-3 in the five spot
and Chris Leson won 6-2, 6-3. |
