Men's Tennis
Tops IPFW, 5-2
Fort
Wayne, Ind.- The men's tennis team picked up its
second win of the weekend and third
straight victory on Sunday morning
by beating IPFW, 5-2, at the Pine
Ridge Racquet and Fitness Center.
The Penguins secured the early
doubles point and won four singles
matches to improve to an overall
record 4-4
YSU won at No. 1 and 3 singles both
by a score of 8-5. Tariq Ismail and
Chris Leson teamed up at the No. 1
spot to beat Hermann Kuschke and
Diego Arteaga while Steve D'Angelo
and Robert Emig won their match over
Ryan Vogt and Rodrigo Tamashiro in
the No. 3 spot.
At singles, the Guins picked up two
wins in dramatic fashion. Emig and
Steve D'Angelo both extended their
matches to three sets to earn two
more points for YSU. D'Angelo won
3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 and Emig defeated
his opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-7
(5), 6-1.
Kathary and Ismail also won for YSU
in the No. 1 and 2 spot. Both
claimed their matches in straight
sets to give YSU a total of four
singles points and the 5-2 win over
IPFW.
The men's team will return home
Friday to host Dayton at 7 p.m. at
the Boardman Tennis Center. |
