Men's Tennis Drops Match 7-0 to Michigan State in Season Opener

  East Lansing, Mich. -- The Youngstown State men's tennis team traveled to Michigan State to faced the undefeated Spartans in the opening match of the spring season. The Spartans swept both the doubles and the singles matches to improve to 4-0.

   In singles, freshman Michael Kathary lost to Alex Forger 6-1 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Patrick Hamning was defeated by Austin Brooks 6-0, 6-1. In the No. 3 spot Scott Rasmussen beat Tariq Ismail 7-5, 6-3. Steve D'Angelo lost to Jason Norville 6-2, 6-3. Ronnie Hulewicz beat Robert Emig 6-0, 6-2 and at No. 6 singles John Stratton defeated Chris Leson 6-0, 6-0

    At doubles competition, Norville and John Allare beat D'Angelo and Emig 8-1, Brendan Kinkopf and Rasmussen defeated Kathary and Ismail 8-3 and in the No. 3 spot Hulewicz and Clark Richardson beat Hamning and Leson, 8-1.
    The Penguins will be back in action tomorrow morning to face Horizon League foe Detroit at 10 a.m.
