Fairs Well in St. Bonaventure Fall
Classic
St.
Bonaventure, N.Y. --
The
YSU men's tennis team opened the
season at the St. Bonaventure Fall
Classic. In addition to St.
Bonaventure, YSU also played St.
Francis (Pa.) and the University at
Buffalo. No team scores were kept in
the three-day long event.
On Saturday, the Penguins picked up
four wins at singles against St.
Francis (Pa.) Transfer Rob Emig beat
Stephen Kowalski 4-6, 6-2 (8) in the
No. 1 spot. Freshmen Michael Kathary
and Patrick Hamning both won their
matches by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Junior Chris Leson beat Jeffrey
Seevers in the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-2..
Hamning and Leson also teamed up at
doubles on Sunday to beat St.
Francis (Pa.) 8-6 at No. 1. Kathary
and Steven D'Angleo won their match
in the No. 2 spot by a score of 8-2.
Emig finished up the weekend with a
win in the tie-breaker set against
Octavian Stane from the University
at Buffalo, 4-6, 6-4 (8)
D'Angelo
walked away with a win over Buffalo
as well beating Kristof Custers,
4-6, 7-6(4), (4).
Head Coach Eric Ronan was pleased
with how the team played this
weekend.
"This is a very young team. I could
tell that they were nervous, but as
the weekend went on I saw much
improvement," said Ronan.
"This team is ready to play and I
feel that the future looks bright." |
