Men's Tennis
Wraps Up Weekend Play at Valpo
Invitational
Valparaiso, Ind -- The
YSU men's tennis team traveled to
Valpo to play in the weekend
invitational hosted by the
Crusaders. YSU faced Dayton and four
Horizon League schools including
Detroit, Green Bay, UIC and Valpo.
No team scores were kept in the
two-day event.
Michael Kathary and Patrick Hamning
each played in the Singles A
bracket. Kathary lost his first
match to Alex Lau from Valpo, 6-3,
6-2 before beating Dayton's Michael
Rohana 6-2, 6-2 and Detroit's Dustin
Goldenberg by a score of 3-6, 6-2,
10-6. Kathary finished the match
strong by beating John Brough in
three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 10-3. Hamning
dropped his first match, but picked
up the 6-4, 6-2 win over David
Peyton from Dayton in the next
round.
At Singles B, Steve D'Angelo won two
of his four rounds of beating
Detroit's Gino McCathney 6-2, 6-2
and Green Bay's Brian Zaron 6-2,
5-7, 12-10. Robert Emig also won his
first match at Singles B over Kyle
Stump of Valpo.
Brian Carey also won one of his
matches in Singles C. Carey defeated
Dean Masuda 6-4, 7-6 (1).
At Doubles A, Hamning and Kathary
teamed up to beat Matt Clegg and
Matt Keesey from Green Bay 8-1.
The Valpo Invitational concludes the
regular season for the men's tennis
team. Select members of the team
will next prepare to play in the ITA
Midwest Regional in late October. |
