Volkova Finishes
Second in Flight 2 of Bowling

The
YSU women's tennis team opened the
fall season at the Bowling Green
Invitational. A total of nine teams,
including YSU, participated in the
weekend long event. No team
scores were kept. Junior Anna
Volkova claimed second-place in
Flight 2 while freshman Anna Lynch
finished third-place in Flight 1.
Lynch defeated Detroit's Annie Moore
6-2, 6-2 before falling to Safiyya
Ismail from Cincinnati by a score of
6-3, 6-1. Lynch came back in the
third round to beat Xavier's Kara
Courtney, 6-4, 4-6(9)
Volkova won the first round of her
flight against IUPUI's Vanessa Carna,
7-6 (3), 6-1 and then in the second
round against Ksenia Slycko from
Cincinnati 6-4, 7-5. Volkova fell in
the third round 6-1, 6-0 to finish
second.
In doubles action, Hannah Patten and
Irena Lanc placed third in Flight 4.
Patten and Lanc teamed up to beat
IUPUI's Karlee Rush and Kelly Davis,
8-1. The pair lost 8-2 in the second
round to Akron and then beat
Cleveland State's Denisa Muntean and
Molly Drake by a score of 9-8 (6) to
finish third.
The women's team will be back in
action on October 3-5 at the Ball
State Invitational. |
