Falls to Bowling Green in Spring
Season Opener, 5-2
Boardman -- The
women's tennis team opened the
spring season against Bowling Green
in a hard-fought battle on Saturday
evening at the Boardman Tennis
Center. Anna Volkova and Tanisha
Welch each won their matches in the
third set tie-breakers, but the
Falcons proved to be too difficult
as Penguins fell 5-2.
Bowling Green took the early lead by
winning all three of the doubles
matches, 8-1, 8-1 and 8-2. The
Falcons went on to claim the No. 1,
2 and 6 singles matches in straight
sets.
Volkova and Welch each extended
their matches to the tiebreaker sets
to claim two points for the Guins.
Volkova beat Samantha Kintzel 1-6,
6-4 (11) in the No.3 spot and Welch
downed Katia Babina 7-5, 5-7 (12) at
No. 4. Nicole Haralambopoulos lost a
close match to Stefanie Menhoff by a
score of 7-5, 2-6 (4) in the fifth
slot.
YSU will return to action tomorrow
morning to face Toledo at the
Boardman Tennis Center. Match time
is set for 8 a.m. |
