Women's Tennis
Edges California (Pa), 4-3

The Youngstown State women's tennis
team picked up the doubles point and
won three singles matches to claim the
4-3 victory over California
(Pa.) at the Boardman
Tennis Center on Wednesday
afternoon.
Tanisha Welch, Gretchen
Cloern and Irena Lanc each won their
singles matches while Welch and Cloern
also won at doubles.
Welch and
Lauren Hankle downed Nina Kowalski and Mariana Oliveira
at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Sarah Lynch
and Cloern
also won their doubles match in the
No. 3 spot by a score of 8-5.
Lanc gave the
Guins the first singles point by
winning her match by a score of 6-1,
6-3 at the No. 6 spot. Welch added
to the lead with her 6-3, 6-3 at No.
4. Gretchen secured the win for YSU
win her 6-4, 7-6 (11-9) win over
Laurie Navarro.
Lynch and Anna
Volkova each lost heartbreaking
matches to their opponents in the
No. 1 and 3 spot. Lynch lost in the
third set tiebreaker by a score of
7-5, 2-6, 5-7. Volkova also fell in
the third set, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
YSU will
search for its third win of the
season against IPFW on the road on
Friday. The match will begin at 6:30
p.m.
