Tanisha Welch Picks Up YSU's Only Point in 6-1 Loss to Cincinnati

   Boardman, Ohio -- The Youngstown women's tennis team dropped Friday's match 6-1 to the University of Cincinnati at the Boardman Tennis Center. Tanisha Welch picked up the Penguins only point as she won her match 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 4 spot. Welch has won her last three matches at No. 4.

    The Bearcats took the early lead by sweeping the doubles matches 8-5, 8-3, 8-1.

    In other singles action, Lauren Hankle and Gretchen Cloern both lost heartbreaking matches in the third set-tiebreakers. Hankle faced Jennifer Rowen in the No. 2 spot. Hankle won the first set 6-0, but fell 6-4 in the second and 6-2 in the tiebreaker. Cloern battled with Safiyya Ismail at No. 5 winning the first set 7-6 (1), Cloern could not hold onto the lead as she fell 6-1 in the second and 7-5 in the third set.

    The Penguins will host St. Bonaventure on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. at the Boardman Tennis Center.
