Women's Tennis
Claims Third Place in HL With 4-2 Win
Over No. 2 Butler
Indianapolis,
Ind. --
The women's tennis defeated the No.
2 seed Butler by a score of 4-2 to
finish third place in the Horizon
League and wrap up the regular
season on a high note. The Penguins
won the doubles point and claimed
three singles matches in the
thrilling victory. UIC defeated
Detroit in the Championship match.
Nicole
Haralambopoulos and Lauren Hankle
won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and Anna
Volkova and Tanisha Welch picked up
the 8-3 win in the No. 3 spot.
The Penguins
entered singles play with the 1-0
lead. Butler won at No. 3 and 4
singles but the Bulldogs could not
stop the Guins from winning at the No.
2, 5 and 6 spots.
Hankle
defeated Natali Jaimes 7-6 (5), 6-3
at No. 2. Gretchen Cloern won her
match over Cam Thompson 7-6 (4), 6-2
in another exciting
tie-breaker. Haralambopoulos easily
defeated Kate Panawash 6-0, 6-1 at
No. 6.
