Welch Wins Three
Rounds of Singles at IPFW
Invitational

Wayne, Ind. --
The
Youngstown State women's tennis team
played in its final fall
invitational this weekend at IPFW.
The Penguins competed against teams
from Detroit, Evansville, Valparaiso
and IPFW. No team scores were kept
in the three- day long event.
In Singles Flight 5, Tanisha Welch
won all three of her matches. Welch
first beat Pin Sorensen from
Evansville 4-6, 6-2 (7). She then
downed Sachi Janek from IPFW 6-4,
6-4. Welch finished off the round by
defeating Valpo's Stephanie York
6-2, 6-0.
Irena Lanc competed in Singles
Flight 6 winning two of her three
matches. Lanc beat Stephanie Mills
from Evansville 6-4, 6-2 and Alex
Forsyth from IPFW 6-0, 6-1.
In Flight 9, Kelly Culbertson
defeated IPFW's Ashley Hunter 6-1,
6-4 and Jacki O'Reilly from Valpo
6-1, 6-1.
Hannah Patten and Jessica Mullis
both played in Singles Flight 10
winning all their matches. Patten
beat Camilla Burden from Valpo 6-2,
6-4 and Rafaela Hadba from IPFW 6-3,
6-0. Mullis defeated IPFW's Rafaels
Hadba, 6-2, 6-4 and Valpo's Camill
Burdern, 6-2, 6-2.
At Doubles, Gretchen Cloern and
Sarah Lynch won two of their three
rounds of doubles in Flight 2. The
duo beat York and Bilyev from Valpo
8-6 and Schwartz and Kiefer from
Valpo 8-2.
Nicole
Haralambopoulos and Lauren Hankle
also defeated Schwartz and Kiefer
8-3 and Brien and Forsyth from IPFW
8-4.
In Flight 3, Irena Lanc and Hannah
Patten beat Davis from Detroit and
Sharma from Evansville 8-3.
Culbertson and Mullis downed
Hunter and Hadba from IPFW 8-4.
Select members of the women's tennis
team will next play in the Rolex
Regional in Ann Arbor, Michigan on
October 22-25.
