Xavier Slips
Past Women's Tennis, 4-3
Cincinnati, Ohio --
The Youngstown State women's tennis
team came out strong against Xavier
winning the doubles point, but the
Penguins could not hold the lead as
the Musketeers picked up four wins
at singles. YSU's Lauren Hankle and
Anna Volkova each their singles
matches, but it was not enough in
the 4-3 loss.
Tanisha Welch and
Hankle teamed up to earn their
second doubles victory of the
weekend by beating Catherine Starr
and Kaitlyn Zinn by a score of 8-5.
Sarah Lynch and Gretchen Cloern also
won their second doubles match of
the weekend. The pair teamed up to
beat Aylin Seyalioglu and Christine
Pleiman, 8-6.
After winning two of
the three rounds of the doubles the
Penguins went into singles play with
the lead. The Guins picked up wins
at No. 2 and 3 singles with Hankle
and Volkova each winning their
matches in the third set
tiebreakers. Hankle won her
match 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. Volkova
picked-up her win by a score of 7-6
(7-4), 0-6, 6-3. Xavier claimed the
other four matches to get past YSU
by a close score of 4-3.
The women's
tennis team will return home to host
California (Pa.) at the Boardman
Tennis Center on Feb. 11. Match time
is set for Noon.
