Eric
Ronan is in his eighth year as the head coach of the Youngstown State
Men's Tennis program
In the 2007-2008 season the team went 2-12 in the regular
season. At the Horizon League Tournament the Penguins fell to
UIC in the first round, then lost to Valpo to finish in seventh.
During the 2006-2007 season the Penguins finished the regular
season
with an overall record of 5-12. At the Horizon League Tournament the
Guins lost to UIC in the opening round, then fell to Green Bay to
finish in sixth.
The Penguins have shown steady improvement during
Ronan's tenure. In 2004-05, YSU won eight dual matches, the most by
the program since the 1997-98 campaign.
In 2000, Ronan
joined the Youngstown State Athletic staff in October and guided the
men's team in their final year of competition in the Mid-Continent
Conference in 2000-01. YSU began competition in the Horizon League
in 2001-02.
He took over the men's program from women's head
coach Michele Grim, who was the head coach of both squads.
Ronan has been the tennis director at the Canfield
Swim and Tennis Club since 1993. He was a part of four team
championships. While at Canfield, he was the president of their
league for two years.
He was also a manager and a pro at the Boardman
Tennis Center where he was in charge of the development of all the
ranked junior players in the club. He was also in charge of training
all new personnel.
He played tennis for Woodrow Wilson High School in
1978-1979 and at Cardinal Mooney High School from 1980-1981. He then
continued his tennis career playing for Youngstown
State from 1981-1983. |
