Records Fall at All-Ohio Championship
Findlay,
Ohio --
Jarrod Davis, Laura Schatz and Emily
Schnitkey broke school records to
highlight Youngstown State's day at
the All-Ohio Championship at the
Malcolm Athletic Center on Saturday
afternoon.
Davis shattered his own school mark in the weight throw with
a sixth-place hurl of 54 feet, 4.75
inches while Schatz set the school
record in the high jump with a
third-place leap of 5-7. Schnitkey
broke her own school record in the
mile with a third-place time of 5
minutes, 2.01 seconds.
Danielle Bolt led the women’s sprinting events with a
second-place time of 7.64 in the
60-meter dash while Leslie Johnson
finished seventh in the 400 with a
time of 58.69. Aaliyah
Gillespie added a seventh-place
finish in the 60 hurdles with a time
of 9.06.
In the distance events, Lisa Davies and Lindsay Wojciak had
strong showings in the mile as
Davies finished fifth in 5:07.36 and
Wojciak placed ninth. Gina
Mavrikis finished 10th in the 800
with a time of 2:25.16.
Nikki Hooper finished eighth in the triple jump with a
distance of 35-5 and Alex Casi
finished 11th in the triple jump.
Kim Lammers finished ninth in the
shot put while Amy Hill finished
11th in the weight throw.
On the men’s side, Sherod Holmes had an impressive day in the
sprinting events with a fourth-place
finish in the 60 with a time of 6.97
and an eighth-place finish in the
200 in 23.30. Adam Lewis,
Tyler Morton and Chris Goffer
claimed the eighth through 10th
spots in the 60 hurdles and Papis
Joh added a third-place finish in
the 400 with a time of 50.68.
The Penguins had a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run as
Jeremy Riehm finished second with a
time of 15:32.62 and Dave Mealy
placed fifth in 15:44.86. Also
in the distance events, Nick Buzek
finished fourth in the mile with a
time of 4:24.44 and Chris Hine
finished seventh in 4:32.50.
In the field events, T.J. Peterson finished fourth in the
long jump with a leap of 22-3.75
while Davis added a sixth-place
showing in the shot put with a throw
of 48-7.5.
Akron won the men's title with the Penguins placing sixth out
of nine competing teams. Bowling
Green won the women's championship
with YSU finishing seventh out of 12
schools.
The Penguins will compete at the Kent State Tune-Up on Feb.
