Women Set Distance Medley Record at Penn State

Emily Schnitkey, Leslie Johnson, Lindsay Wojciak and Lisa Davies teamed up to set the school record in the distance medley relay with a ninth-place time of 12 minutes, 12.52 seconds to highlight YSU's performances at the Penn State National Relay on Jan. 31.
    Papis Joh led the YSU men with a 22nd-place time of 49.80 in the 400 and a 31st-place time of 22.48 in the 200.
    Also for the women, Laura Schatz finished 11th in the high jump with 5-4 1/4 and Lisa Davies finished 14th in the 3,000 with a personal-best time of 10:10.55.  Lindsay Wojciak finished 21st in the 1,000 with a personal-best time of 3:03.16 and Danielle Bolt added a 29th-place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.39.  Gina Mavrikis, Kim Jendre and Marielle Glanz finished 27th, 29th and 30th in the 1,000.
    The quartet of Alex Casi, Leslie Johnson, Bolt and Jeanna Cunningham finished 18th in the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:58.20.
    For the men, Scott Weiser finished 21st in the 400 with a time of 49.74 while Nick Buzek finished 22nd in the 3,000 with a personal-best time of 8:36.89.  Adam Lewis finished 31st in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.73 while Chris Hine finished 37th in the 1,000 and Nick Kruse placed 39th in the mile.
    Ryan Strzalka, Joh, Kevin Breckenridge and Weiser finished 21st in the 4x400 relay.
    At the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State, Nikki Hooper finished third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump to lead the women.  In the throws, Lindsey Hill finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 41-1 3/4 while Kim Lammers finished eighth and Amy Hill finished ninth.  Katy WIlliams added a 13th-place finish in the weight throw.  Debbie Breunig finished fifth in the 5,000 while Cassandra Smith finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.87 and 11th in the 200.
    Jeremy Riehm was the highest finisher for the men at Kent State with a fifth-place time of 8:54.53 in the 3,000.  Derek Riker added a sixth-place finish in the pole vault with a season-best 14-5 1/4 while Dave Mealy finished ninth in the 3,000.  Darius Peterson posted 10th-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the long jump.
    In the throws, Jarrod Davis finished 13th in the weight throw  and 14th in the shot put.  Drew Weizer had season-best performances in the shot put (41-11 1/4) and the weight throw (43-8 1/2) while Mike DeToro had a season-best in the weight throw (34-1 1/4).
    YSU will compete at the Rhode Island Invitational on Feb. 6.
