Penguins Open Up Spring Semester at Black Squirrel Classic
Kent, Ohio -- Satara Freeman placed
second in the 60m hurdles and
Danielle Bolt finished second in the
60m dash as the Youngstown State
track and field team competed in its
first meet of the new year over the
weekend at the Black Squirrel
Classic.
Freeman's time of 8.97 seconds was a personal-best time and
moved her into third place on YSU's
all-time list in the event. Bolt
finished with a time of 7.83 in the
60m dash.
Damian Wright led the men's squad with a third-place finish
in the 60m dash (7.06).
Freeman and Bolt were not the only sprinters to place highly
at the meet as Katie Betts finished
fourth in the 200m (25.87) and
Yandeh Joh was sixth (26.36). Betts
added a fifth-place finish in the
60m (7.95) and Ashley Oliver was
sixth (8.01).
Shantel Jackson headed the middle-distance group with a
fifth-place finish in the 800m
(2:24.87).
In the field events, Bethany Anderson finished fourth in the
weight throw with a mark of 54-9 1/2
and fifth in the shot put (43-1).
Amy Hill placed fifth in the weight
throw (48-6 1/4), and Stephanie
Jarvis added a fifth-place finish in
the pole vault (9-6 1/4).
On the men's side, Adam Lewis finished sixth in the 60m
hurdles (8.72) and Jarrod Davis
placed third in the weight throw
(60-10 1/2). Joe Lahmon recorded
personal-best marks in both throwing
events with a 52-5 1/2 in the weight
throw and 47-11 in the shot put. |
