Davis Provisionally Qualifies for Nationals at
Central Collegiate Championship
Kent, Ohio -- Senior Jarrod Davis provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Championship
and broke his own school record in
the weight throw at the Central
Collegiate Championship over the
weekend.
Davis is the first-ever YSU student-athlete to provisionally
qualify for the NCAA Championship in
a field event. His third-place mark
of 63-3 1/4 bested his previous
personal-record distance by almost
two feet.
Senior Adam Lewis also broke his school record in the 60m
hurdles with a time of 8.53, and Jen
Grayson set the school record in the
pentathlon with a first-place score
of 3,133.
A total of 18 personal-best marks were set by the women's
squad and 17 were set by the men's
team.
The women's squad was led by the sprint group as Satara
Freeman won the 60m hurdles with a
personal-best time of 8.82, and
Danielle Bolt won the 60m dash in
7.72. Katie Betts placed second in
the 200m with a personal-best time
of 24.97 while Bolt finished third
(25.69) and Darcelle Formby placed
fourth (25.88). Formby added a
fifth-place finish in the 60m
(7.90), and Betts finished sixth
(7.97). Emily Wollet finished fourth
in the 400m (1:00.14) and Yandeh Joh
finished fifth (1:00.20).
Shantel Jackson's third-place time of 2:21.69 highlighted the
distance events while Kari
Kreutzfeld finished sixth (2:25.71)
in the event. Genevieve Jerome
finished sixth in the 3,000m
(13:33.98), and Amy Moore placed
sixth in the 1,000m (3:16.16).
Formby was the high finisher in the field events with a
second-place mark of 17-0 3/4 while
Grayson tied for second in the high
jump (5-2 1/4). Bethany Anderson
finished third in the shot put (44-0
3/4) and fifth in the weight throw
(52-10 1/4). Lindsey Hill added a
fifth-place finish in the shot put
(42-2), and Katy Williams finished
sixth in the weight throw (51-4
1/2).
Davis was not the only Penguin to have a standout meet in the
field events. Shayne York finished
second in the triple jump (42-9 3/4)
and fourth in the long jump (20-11
1/4) while Clarence Howell was
fourth in the triple jump (39-2
1/4). Aaron Merrill placed third in
the shot put (52-4 3/4) while Davis
finished fourth (51-10). Joe Lahmon
added a sixth-place finish in the
shot (47-10 1/2).
John Sheppard headlined the distance events as he finished
second in the 800m (1:57.24) while
Dave Mealy placed third in the
5,000m (15:44.85). R.D. Goodright
finished fifth in the mile
(4:17.60), Harold Jones placed fifth
in the 1,000m (2:34.74), and Nick
Kruse added a sixth-place finish in
the 5,000m (16:09.82).
Damian Wright finished fourth in the 200m (22.29), and Jason
Greenamyer added a fifth-place
finish in the heptathlon with a
score of 3,681.
The Penguins will compete at the Penn State National
Invitational on Friday and Saturday. |
