Jarvis Breaks Pole Vault Record at Kangaroo Invitational
    Akron, Ohio -- Freshman Stephanie Jarvis broke her own school record in the pole vault and six different Penguins recorded second-place finishes as the Youngstown State track and field team competed at the Kangaroo Invitational on Friday evening.
    Jarvis posted a mark of 10 feet, 11 3/4 inches to finish third in the pole vault as the women's squad placed third overall. Damian Wright, John Sheppard, R.D. Goodright and Jarrod Davis each finished second to lead the men's team to a second-place finish.
    Wright's second-place finish came in the 200m with a time of 22.47 while Sheppard placed second in the mile (4:27.33). Goodright finished second in the 800m (1:56.56) and Davis finished second in the weight throw (58-1 3/4). Goodright teamed up with Scott Streiner, Harold Jones and Justin Carolyne to finish second in the 4x400m relay.
    Jackson-Milton high graduate Luke McCluggage finished third in the 3,000m (9:20.32) in his first meet while Shayne York placed third in the triple jump (43-1 1/2) and Drew Weizer placed third in the weight throw (55-2 1/4). Aaron Merrill moved into second in YSU history in the shot put with a fourth-place mark of 52-1 3/4. Other
fourth-place finishers included Joe Lahmon in the weight throw, Clarence Howell in the triple jump, Dan Nemergut in the 3,000m and Dave Mealy in the mile.
    On the women's side, Danielle Bolt placed second in the 60m (7.80) and Satara Freeman finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.99). Bolt teamed up with Katie Betts, Darcelle Formby and Emily Wollet in the 4x400m relay that also finished second.
    Jen Grayson finished fourth in the hurdles (9.60) and the high jump (5-4 1/4). Kari Kreutzfeld added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (15-6 1/4).
    In the throws, Bethany Anderson placed fourth in the shot put (44-3 1/2) while Lindsey Hill placed fifth (41-10 3/4). Anderson added a fifth-place finish (54-11 1/4) in the weight throw.
    The Penguins will compete at the Central Collegiate Championship on Feb. 4 at Kent State.
