High Individual Marks Highlight Robert Morris Tri-Meet
Moon Township, Pa. -- Eleven different
Youngstown State track and field
athletes combined to win 15 events
in a meet with Robert Morris and
California (Pa.).
Senior Gina Mavrikis, freshman Bethany Anderson and freshman
Darcelle Formby won two events
apiece for the women's squad while
senior Jarrod Davis won two events
for the men.
Mavrikis won the 3,000-meters (12:44.52) and the mile
(5:51.49) while Anderson swept the
throwing events with victories in
the shot put (13.09m) and the weight
throw (16.97m). Formby won the 200m
(26.40) and the long jump with a
mark of 5.51m, which ranks her fifth
in school history in the event.
Davis claimed victory in the shot put with a personal-best
mark of 15.44m and the weight throw
with a mark of 17.90m. His distance
in the shot put moved him into
second-place on YSU's all-time list.
Also for the women, Satara Freeman ran a personal-best time
of 8.36 to win the 55m hurdles and
move into second-place all-time
while Danielle Bolt edged out three
teammates to win the 55m (7.27).
Other winners included Yandeh Joh in
the 400m (1:00.69) and Jen Grayson
in the high jump (1.65m).
Katie Betts, Emily Wollet, Shantel Jackson, Stephanie Jarvis,
Bolt and Joh all added second-place
finishes at the meet.
On the men's side, Damian Wright won the 55m with a time of
6.51 to move into third-place on the
all-time list while Dave Mealy won
the 3,000m (9:28.50) and Jason
Greenamyer won the long jump (6.65m)
Adam Lewis, R.D. Goodright, John Sheppard, Dan Nemergut,
Aaron Merrill and Drew Weizer each
earned second-place finishes.
The Penguins will compete at the Kangaroo Invitational in
Akron on Friday. |
