Anderson Breaks
Record, Anthony Wins Twice at Akron
Open

Bethany Anderson topped her own
school record in the weight throw
and Alisha Anthony won the long jump
in two different divisions at the
Akron Open this weekend.
Anderson posted a mark of 59 feet, 5 inches to finish fourth
in the weight throw while Alisha
Anthony leaped a collegiate-best
distance of 19-1 1/2 to win the long
jump in the elite gold division.
Anthony also jumped 18-3 in the blue division for another
victory, and she finished a third in
the triple jump with a mark of 34-2
1/4. Yandeh Joh added a victory in
the pentathlon with 3,418 points,
and Joe Lahmon won the shot put
(50-0) and Dom DeFilippo won the
weight throw (56-5 3/4) to highlight
the men's performances.
Also on the women's side, Jen Grayson placed fourth in the
pentathlon (3,051 points) and fifth
in the high jump (5-4 1/4). Darcelle
Formby (26.01) and Ashley Oliver
(26.03) finished seventh and eighth
in the 200m, Jennifer Roman placed
eighth in the 400m (1:00.01), and
Amy Hill was eighth in the weight
throw (46-11 1/2).
For the men, Shayne York placed fourth in the triple jump
(43-7 1/4) and fifth in the long
jump (21-1 1/2) while Lahmon (54-4
3/4) and Drew Weizer (54-2) placed
fourth and fifth in the weight
throw. Aaron Merrill finished
seventh in the gold division of the
shot put (51-9 1/4), and Scott
Streiner added an eighth-place time
in the 200m (22.70).
The Penguins will compete at the Findlay Open on Friday and
the All-Ohio Championships on
Saturday. |
