Feb. 9, 2007 Anthony Earns Horizon League Track Athlete of
the Week Honors
Indianapolis -- Youngstown State freshman Alisha Anthony
has been named the Horizon League's Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week
for her performance last week at the Akron Open, the league announced.
Anthony, a Van Wert, Ohio, native, won the long jump in two
different divisions and earned a third-place finish for the Penguins in her last
meet. She topped 19 feet in the long
jump for the first time in her career, posting a first-place
mark of 19-1 1/2 in the elite gold division to win by more
than eight inches. She also won the blue division of the
long jump with a mark of 18-3, finished third in the triple
jump (34-2 1/4) and posted a personal-best time of 8.03 in
the 60m dash.
Anthony's distance of 19-1 1/2 is more than a foot
better than any other posted by a league jumper this season,
is 1 foot, 3 inches better than the winning mark at last
year's conference championship, and ranks her as the
third-best long jumper in YSU history.
Anthony is the third YSU track and field athlete to earn the
league's weekly award. Bethany Anderson was named the year's first athlete of
the week on Jan. 17, and Aaron Merrill earned the award a week later.
The Penguins will compete at the Findlay Open and All-Ohio
Championships this weekend.
