Anderson Hits NCAA Provisional Mark in Weight Throw at Kent State Tune-Up

    Kent, Ohio -- Youngstown State junior Bethany Anderson provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship in the weight throw and set YSU's record for the third consecutive week at the Kent State Tune-Up on Saturday.
    Anderson posted a distance of 63 feet, 7 inches to become the first YSU female thrower to hit the qualifying mark of 62-4. According to trackshark.com, she currently ranks 22nd in all of Division I.
    Anderson added a sixth-place finish in the shot put (40-8 1/4) while Lindsey Hill placed fourth with a mark of 42-4. Lindsay Cobey finished eighth with a season-best mark of 48-10 3/4 in the weight throw, and Alexis Hall was 10th (46-3 1/4).
    Aaron Merrill was the top men's finisher with a ninth-place showing in the shot put (49-2 1/2).
    While YSU's throwers competed at the Kent State Tune-Up on Saturday, the rest of the squad competed at the Zips Open on Friday evening.
    Harold Jones was the top YSU finisher with a second-place time of 1:55.03 while J.D. Sheppard placed third in 1:55.51. Adam Kagarise placed sixth in the 400m (49.83), and Marty Vieth finished sixth in the high jump with a season-best mark of 6-0 3/4.
    Katie Betts finished sixth in the 200m with a season-best time of 26.50. Carly Youlton placed fifth in the long jump (15-8 3/4). Laura Yamsek and Genevieve Jerome each posted season-best times in the mile.
    The Penguins will compete at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday and Sunday.
