Penguins Post Two Wins, Numerous Personal-Best Marks at Akron

    Akron, Ohio -- Youngstown State's Alisha Anthony won the long jump in the elite gold division and freshman John Pallini won the shot put in the blue division at the Akron Open this weekend.
    Anthony posted a collegiate-best leap of 19-2 in the long jump to win the event for the second-straight year and ran the 60m in a personal-best 7.97 to finish 13th in the blue division.
    Pallini's mark of 52-6 1/2 was his personal-best and ranks second in the Horizon League this season.
    Teammate Aaron Merrill finished fifth in the shot put in the gold division and posted the furthest distance in the Horizon League this season with a mark of 53-7 3/4. Merrill, competing in his first meet of the season, also threw a personal-best 51-5 in the weight throw.
    Also in the gold division, Jen Grayson was second in the high jump (5-4 1/4) and Yandeh Joh finished sixth in the pentathlon (3,325).
    Freshman Kayla Witmer eclipsed her previous personal-best time in the 5,000m by more than 50 seconds, clocking in with a 12th-place time of 18:21.58. Sophomore Lauren Blase also ran a personal-best 18:39.82 to finish 19th in the 5,000m.
    Harold Jones ran a personal-best 800m time of 1:54.10 to finish seventh, Scott Streiner was 11th in the 200m (22.29), and R.D. Goodright was 11th in the mile (4:18.21).

    In the blue division Adam Kagarise posted collegiate-best times of 49.19 in the 400m to place second and 22.37 in the 200m to finish sixth. Jake Lape finished eighth in the 5,000m with a personal-best 15:39.53, and Jim Ramson was 11th in a personal-best 15:41.80. Shayne York was second in the long jump (22-2 1/4) while Jerrill Hall was eighth (20-10 3/4).
    Emily Wollet was fourth in the 400m (1:00.12) and Kari Kreutzfeld was fifth in the 200m (25.83). Joh placed seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.16), and Jennifer Roman was ninth in the 800m with a season-best 2:23.32. Alexis Hall added a seventh-place showing in the weight throw (51-5 3/4).
    The Penguins will have a split squad that competes at Akron again this Friday. The rest of the squad will compete at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Friday and Saturday.
