Merrill Earns Second Career Horizon League Athlete of the Week Nod

    Indianapolis -- Youngstown State junior Aaron Merrill has been named the Horizon League Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
    Merrill, a native of Leetonia, Ohio, broke his own school record in the shot put with a mark of 54-10 last Friday at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-February Meet. That distance was more than 4 1/2 feet further than the closest competitor.
    The junior also established a new personal-best mark to win the weight throw with a heave of 54-0.
    Merrill now holds the Horizon League's top distance in the shot put and the fourth-best mark in the weight throw this season.
