Merrill Sets
Shot Put Record, Three Solid in 800m
at Kent State
Kent, Ohio -- Junior Aaron Merrill broke the shot
put record for the second straight week and three runners posted personal-best
times in the 800-meters in Youngstown State's final meet prior to next week's
Horizon League Championships.
Merrill nearly hit the NCAA provisional qualifying standard
in the shot put, posting a distance of 56-6 1/2 to finish third. R.D. Goodright,
Harold Jones and J.D. Sheppard all ran personal-best times in the 800m for YSU,
which will host the league meet at the Kent State Field House on Saturday and
Sunday.
Goodright finished second in the 800m with a time of 1:53.09,
Jones was third in 1:53.67 and Sheppard was fifth in 1:53.97.
Junior Katie Betts finished second in the 200m with a
season-best time of 25.30, and freshman Breanne Romeo was four with a
personal-best time of 25.50 to highlight the women's performances.
Emily Wollet also ran a personal-best 400m time of 58.62 to
finish fourth, and Katy Wells' time of 9.22 in the 60m hurdles earned her
fourth.
Jen Grayson tied for fourth in the high jump (5-3), Stephanie
Jarvis was fourth in the pole vault (10-10 3/4), Bethany Anderson was fourth in
the weigh throw (58-11 1/2) and Danielle Curry was fifth in the shot put (43-5).
Scott Streiner matched his personal-best time in the 200m
(22.21) to place third, and Michael Perri's personal-best 400m time of 49.88
earned him sixth.
Jerrill Hall added a sixth-place finish in the long jump
(21-4).
Saturday's schedule at the Horizon League Championships
begins at 9 a.m. with the pentathlon while individual field events start at 3:30
p.m. and running events begin at 4:30 p.m. More details about the meet and
previews of both of YSU's teams trying to make a title run will be released this
