Both Squads
Finish Second to UWM At Indoor
Championships
Greencastle, Ind. -- Junior Alisha Anthony was named
Most Outstanding Field Performer and
freshman Kiplangat Tisia took
Running Newcomer of the Year honors
as seven different Penguins earned
league titles at the Horizon League
Indoor Championships this weekend at
DePauw University.
Anthony claimed the honor after
winning the long jump with a
distance of 5.70m and a second place
finish in the triple jump with a
distance of 11.94m. Anthony is now
three-for-three in the long jump at
the Indoor Championships. In track
events, Anthony also had a third
place finish in the 60m (7.82) and a
fifth place finish in the 200m
(25.95).
Tisia, in his
first conference meet, was
victorious in the 5,000m with a time
of 14:24.21, claimed fourth in the
mile after running a time of 4:15.83
and eighth in the 3,000m following a
time of 8:29.76.
The men’s and women’s squads couldn’t overcome day one
deficits as Milwaukee claimed both
the men’s and women’s league titles.
The Panthers won by a score of
165-120 on the women’s side, while
the men fell by a score of 147-98.
On the women’s side, both senior Jen
Grayson and sophomore Danielle Curry
defended their 2008 indoor titles.
Grayson won the high jump by
clearing a mark of 1.63m and Curry
took first in the shot put with a
personal-best throw of 13.75m. Curry
also added another personal best
throw and finished second in the
weight throw with a distance of
17.18m.
Stephanie Jarvis and Amanda took
second and third place in the pole
vault by clearing marks of 3.25m and
3.10m. Alexis Hall claimed third in
the weight throw with a distance of
16.86m and Kaitlyn Griffith took
third in the shot put with a
distance of 12.86m.
Breanne Romeo finished in second in
the 400m with a time of 58.87. Robyn
Ray took second in the high jump
clearing 1.63m, fourth in the
pentathlon with 3,076 points
including winning the high jump
stage by clearing 1.62m and also
finished fourth in the triple jump
with a distance of 11.08m.
Lauren Blase had with a
personal-best time and a fourth place
finish in the 5,000m (17:48.60), a
fifth place finish in the mile
(5:11.05) and another personal-best
time and sixth place finish
in the 3,000m (10:08.67). Jen Roman
finished the 800m in fifth with a
time of 2:23.05.
For the men, sophomore Jerrill Hall
broke the Horizon League record in
the 60m hurdles with a personal-best
time 8.22. Hall also finished fourth
in the high jump clearing 1.93m and
fifth in the long jump with a jump
of 6.63m.
Senior Joe Lahmon was victorious in
the weight throw with a
personal-best distance of 18.73m
along with a fifth place finish in
the shot put, throwing 14.39m.
Lahmon also won the weight throw in
2007 before he was redshirted in the
2008 indoor season. J.R. Hodge took
first in the 60m with a
personal-best time of 7.02.
Michael Perri finished third in the
pentathlon with 4,628 points that
included victories in the long jump
(6.24m) and in the 1,000m (2:39.98).
In individual events, Perri finished
fourth in the 400m (49.86) and sixth
in the high jump (1.88m).
John Pallini
finished in second in the shot put
(15.41m) and Jeremiah Folger claimed
fourth in the shot put (14.45).
Shayne York finished fourth in both
the triple jump (13.64m) and the
long jump (6.75m).
Mark Lipinsky and R.D. Goodright
both had fourth place finished as
Lipinsky competed in the 60m hurdles
(8.56), while Goodright ran the 800m
(1:54.62). Bryin Ehrhardt finished
the high jump in fifth (1.93m).
The Penguins will travel to South
Bend, Ind. to take part in the Alex
Wilson Invitational on Friday and
Saturday.
