Penguins Have
Dominant Showing as Women Win
Baldwin-Wallace Meet
Berea, Ohio. -- The Youngstown State track team had
an all-around solid performance as the women took first place out of 12 teams
with a score of 144, while the men finished in fifth with 94 points.
On the women's side, the Penguins claimed the top spot in six
events.
Junior Lisa
Lee finished in first in the 1,000m
with a personal-best time of
3:07.61. Lee was also part of
the winning 4x400m team along with
senior Darcelle Formby, Katie Betts,
and Kari Kreutzfeld, who finished
with a time of 4:12.64.
Junior
Stephanie Jarvis tied for first in
the pole vault, clearing a distance
of 3.20m. Freshman Laura Kosiorek
had a personal- best distance 11.29m
in the triple jump to take the top
spot.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Grifith took first in the
shot put with a throw of 12.64m. One
spot behind her in second was
teammate and fellow freshman Leah
Love with a distance of 12.13m.
The Penguins
took the top-four spots in the
weight throw, highlighted by junior
Alexis Hall's first place throw of
16.66m. Behind Hall was
sophomore Danielle Curry (15.55m),
sophomore Marissa Opper (14.94m),
and Griffith (14.38m).
For the
men, the Penguins won four events
and had eight top-5 finishes.
Sophomore
Scott Denham claimed first in the
1,000m with a time of 2:39.32.
Fellow sophomore Jake Dialesandro
ran a first-place and personal-best
time of 15:40.75 in the 5,000m.
Johnny Copley
was another sophomore who had a
first-place finish. Copley took
first in the pole vault, clearing a
distance of 4.40m. Senior Joe Lahmon
took first in the weight throw with
a distance of 17.19m.
The squad will
return to action Friday when they
take part in the two-day Akron
Invitational.
