Blase Takes
First in 3000m at Kent State Gala in
Season Opener
Kent, Ohio -- Junior Lauren Blase captured first
place in the 3000m, as the Penguins had school top-10 performances in six events
at the Kent State Gala on Friday and Saturday.
Blase ran a time of 10:38.18 in the 3000m, finishing seven
seconds better than second place. Blase also captured seventh in the mile with a
time of 5:23.
Also on the women's side, sophomore Danielle Curry took
second in the shot put with a distance of 44'8''. Curry also finished eighth in
the weight throw with a distance of 52'7''. Junior Alexis Hall finished one spot
behind Curry in ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 52'6''.
Sophomore
Breanne Romeo and senior Kari
Kreutzfeld both had top 10 finished
in the 200m and 400m. Romeo finished
fifth in 400m with a time of 58:50
and took ninth 200m after running a
time of 26:29. Kreutzfeld took ninth
in the 400m with a time of 59.07 and
10th in the 200m after running a
26.32.
Freshman
Nicole Rymer cracked into YSU's
top-ten all time list after running
a time of 9.35 in the 60m hurdles,
good for ninth in school history.
Fellow freshman Laura Kosiorek took
fourth in the triple-jump, jumping
10.96m, Junior Stephanie Jarvis
captured eighth in the pole vault,
clearing a height of 3.30m.
For the men,
seniors Michael Perri and Shane York
finished second and third in school
history with their scores in the
pentathlon. Perri finished the event
with a total of 4,413 points, good
for ninth. York totaled 3,778 points
and finished in 11th.
York also made
the record books as he jumped 6.86m
in the long jump, good for second in
school-history and fourth at the
event. Also earning a top-10 finish
in school-history in the long jump
was Antonio Quarterman. Quarterman
jumped 6.65m at the event, finishing
sixth at the event and fifth
all-time at YSU.
Junior Adam
Kagarise had two top-10 finishes at
the event in the 200 and 400m
dashes. Kagarise finished in fifth
in the 400m with a time of 48:95 and
took eighth in the 200m with a time
of 22:54.
Senior RD
Goodright finished third overall in
the mile with a personal-best
with a time of 4:15.51, good for
fifth all-time in school history.
JR Hodge ran a
personal best 60m time of 7:11,
finishing in fourth place. Senior
Joe Lahmon captured 10th in the
weight throw with a throw of 17.30m.
The Penguins are off until the new year when they compete in
the Doug Raymond Invitational on
Jan. 17. |
