Three Penguins, 4x100 Team Earn
Victories at B-W Invite
Berea, Ohio --
Delores Gaines, Sherrod Holmes, Tony
Orcena each had individual victories
and the men's 4x100-meter relay
finished first as the Youngstown
State track and field teams competed
at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational
on Saturday.
Gaines provided the only win on the women's side, earning a
first-place finish in the shot put
with a heave of 42 feet 7 inches.
Holmes won the 100 in a time of
10.65 seconds while Orcena finished
first in the 5000 in a time of
15:03.79. The 4x100 team of
Eugene Harris, Edwin Jackson, Holmes
and Justin Reams edged out Muskingum
College in a time of 41.99 for it's
victory.
In the women's sprints, Alex Casi grabbed fourth-place time
in the 200 with a time of 25.42 and
a sixth-place finish in the 100 with
a time of 12.63. Lindsay
Frontz finished seventh in the 800
in a time of 2:18.53 while Racheal
Albert finished three spots back in
tenth. Lindsay Wojciak added a
sixth-place time of 18:31.33 in the
5000.
In addition to winning the shot put, Gaines finished fifth in
the hammer with a throw of 148-09
1/2 and eighth in the discus.
Also in the discus, Marian Steele
finished fourth with a throw of
132-09 while Katy Williams added a
tenth place throw. Danielle
Sexton and Lauren Girdler finished
seventh and eighth respectively in
the hammer throw.
On the men's side, the Penguins had a solid showing in the
sprinting events. Behind
Holmes in the 100, Jackson finished
sixth with a time of 11.04. In
the 200, Harris finished second with
a time of 21.35 while TJ Peterson
added a tenth-place finish.
Ryan Strzalka finished ninth in the
400 with a time of 50.76.
Behind Orcena in the 5000, Jeremy Riehm finished fifth with a
time of 15:26.69 while Nick Buzek
finished eighth and Dave Mealy and
Chris Hine finished 10th and 11th.
Adam Lewis added a sixth-place
finish in the 400-hurdles with a
time of 56.12 while Paul Robinette
finished eighth in the 3000
steeplechase.
In the field events, Jackson finished seventh in the long
jump while Jarrod Davis finished
sixth in the hammer, ninth in the
discus and 11th in the shot put.
The track and field teams will travel to Ohio State for the
Jesse Owens Track Classic next
weekend. |
