Penguins Look for Second League Title in Indy
    Youngstown --
The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Indianapolis to compete in the 2003 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium held today and tomorrow.
The men's squad will look to capture thier first outdoor championship by riding on their success in the indoor campaign where they captured YSU's first Horizon League Championship in any sport.  The young women's squad will look to make noise in the middle of the pack and gain valuable experience for future championships.
The men's squad boasts a pair of double-winners from the 2002 Championship in Eugene Harris and Kurt Michaelis.  Harris set a new championship record in the 200-meter dash last season with a time of 21.46 and also captured the league title in the 100.  Michaelis, the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, won the 800 and 1,500 last season.
The Penguins are especially strong in the sprinting events.  In the 100, Sherrod Holmes, Edwin Jackson and Harris hold three of the top four times run this season.  Harris, Ryan Strzalka and T.J. Peterson hold three of the top five times in the 200.
According to Coach Brian Gorby, the distance races will be the deciding factor for the Penguins.  Michaelis holds the top time in the 800 and the 1,500 while Nick Buzek and Tony Orcena hold the second and third ranking in the 10,000.
The throws events begin today at 5 p.m. while the running events start at 6 p.m.  The Championship concludes tomorrow.
