Kruse, Michaelis Claim Victories at Icebreaker Open

Nick Kruse won the 1,500-meter run and Kurt Michaelis was first in the 3,000 steeplechase as members of the Youngstown State track and field team competed at the Kent State Icebreaker Open over the weekend.
    Kruse won with a time of 4:11.54 and was closely followed by Nick Buzek, who finished second with a time of 4:13.33.  Michealis edged out teammates Chris Hine and Paul Robinette, who finished second and third respectively, with a first-place time of 9:31.28.
    Adam Lewis finished third in the 100  and third in the 110-meter hurdles to lead the sprinters and hurdlers while Edwin Jackson came in fourth in the 100.  Nick Smith finished third in the 800 with a time of 1:58.70 while Ryan Petrick placed fifth in the same event.  Tony Orcena and Jeremy Riehm finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 1,500 while Alvin Shavers added a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles and a fifth-place finish in the 110 hurdles to round out the top-five finishers for the men.
    In the women's throwing events, Beth Hochstetler earned a third-place finish in the discus (132-04) and a fifth-place finish in the shot put.  Marian Steele added a fourth-place finish in the discus and a sixth-place finish in the shot put.  Danielle Sexton, Christina Campana and Lauren Girdler claimed the third through fifth spots in the hammer. 
    Alex Casi led the women on the track with a fourth-place time of 26.65 in the 200 and a sixth place finish in the 400.  Lindsay Frontz added a fourth-place finish in the 400 and Lindsay Wojciak finished fifth in the 1,500.
    The track squads will travel to the University of Tennessee for the Sea Ray Relays on Thursday.
