Harris Wins 100-Meter Dash, Smith Solid in Opener

Eugene Harris won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.05 while Cassandra Smith finished second in the women's 100 dash and added a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles to lead the Youngstown State track and field teams at the Shamrock Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
    Also for the women, Alex Casi finished second in 400 with a time of 1:00.22 while Lindsay Wojciak added an eighth-place finish in the 1,500.
    In the throws, Kim Lammers finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 29-10 3/4 while Lauren Girdler and Danielle Sexton finished ninth and tenth respectively in the hammer throw.  Chrisina Campana added a ninth-place finish in the javelin.
    Adam Lewis finished fourth in the 400-hurldes in a time of 58.80 and ninth in the 110-hurdles on the men's side.  Edwin Jackson finished sixth in long jump and seventh in the 100 dash while Alvin Shavers added an eighth-place finish in the 400-hurldes.
    In the distance events, Nick Smith placed fourth in the 5,000 with a time of 15:22.98 while Tony Orcena and Jeremy Riehm finished eighth and ninth respectively in the 1,500. 
    The Penguins continue their outdoor season on March 29 at the Raleigh Relays.
