Four Women Capture Individual Titles at IUP Open
Indiana, Pa. -- Danielle Bolt,
Jeanna Cunningham, Aaliyah Gillespie
and Laura Schatz each won individual
titles to lead the Youngstown State
track and field team at the Indiana
University of Pennsylvania Open on
Saturday.
Bolt won the 100-meter dash (12.21 seconds), Cunningham won
the 200-meter dash (24.86),
Gillespie won the 100-meter hurdles
(14.46) and Schatz was the top
finisher in the high jump (5 feet, 4
inches).
Scott Weiser led the men's team with a second-place finish in
the 400-meter dash (49.30) and a
fifth-place finish in the 200
(22.31).
In the women's sprints, Bolt registered second-place finish
in the 200 with a time of 24.92
while Cunningham placed second in
the 400 in 56.17. Leslie
Johnson added a third-place finish
in the 400 with a time of 56.89
while Cassandra Smith finished ninth
in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.47).
Marielle Glanz and Andrea Bardy were YSU's top finishers in
the distance events as Glanz placed
fifth in the 800-meter run (2:22.05)
and Bardy placed fifth in the
5,000-meters (18:47.34). Kim
Jendre added a seventh-place finish
in the 3,000-meters (11:01.16) and
Lindsay Wojciak finished ninth in
the 5,000 (19:00.70). Lindsay
Frontz rounded out the top-10
finishers with a 10th-place finish
in the 800 (2:24.43).
In the field, Nikki Hooper turned in a fifth-place showing in
the long jump with a mark of 17-0
while Katy Williams placed second in
the discus with a distance of 146-7.
Amy Hill and Kim Lammers finished
fifth and sixth in the shot put with
throws of 40-0 1/2 and 38-11 1/2,
respectively.
In the men's sprints and hurdles, Kevin Breckenridge finished
sixth in the 400 hurdles (57.39)
while Adam Lewis placed seventh in
the 400 hurdles (58.74) and ninth in
the 110 hurdles (16.32).
Papis Joh recorded an eighth-place finish in the 400
with a time of 51.54.
Dave Mealy headed the distance squad with a fourth-place
finish in the 5,000 with a time of
15:34.68 while Chris Hine finished
ninth in the race (15:47.65).
Joe Bruderly led the throwers with a sixth-place finish in
the shot put (47-0) while Drew
Weizer placed 10th in discus
(132-6).
The Penguins will compete at the Jesse Owens Invitational on
Friday and Saturday and at the
Baldwin-Wallace Invitational on
Sunday.
