Michaelis Qualifies for NCAA Regional at Raleigh Relays
Raleigh, N.C. -- Youngstown State
senior Kurt Michealis qualified for
the NCAA Mideast Regional in the
3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at
the Raleigh Relays.
Michealis' qualifying time of 9:06.57 was good enough for
fourth-place overall in the race and
third-place among collegiate
runners. His time is the
seventh-fastest run in the nation
this season, according to head coach
Brian Gorby.
Sophomore Aaliyah Gillespie paced the women's squad at the
relays as she set the school record
in the 100-meter hurdles with a
20th-place time of 14.53.
Also on the women's side, Lisa Davies turned in a fifth-place
time of 36:38.23 in the 10,000-meter
run while Lindsay Wojciak finished
19th in the 5,000-meters with a time
of 18:39.14. Danielle Bolt
finished 22nd in the 60-meter dash
with a time of 12.12 and Laura
Schatz added a 15th-place fininsh in
the high jump with a mark of 5-4
1/2.
On the men's side, Chris Hine placed 13th in the 5,000 with a
time of 15:32.03 while Tony Orcena
finished 29th in the 10,000-meter
run with a time of 32:11.30.
Derek Riker added a 19th-place
finish in the pole vault with a mark
of 15-1. Dave Mealy placed
11th in the unseeded 10,000-meter
run with a time of 32:55.77. while
Nick Kruse finished 22nd in the
unseeded 3,000 steeplechase in
10:13.61.
The track and field teams will compete at the Ohio State
Relays April 3. |
