Youlton to Compete in Pan American Junior Championships for Team Canada
Youngstown -- Youngstown State's Carly Youlton will be one of 75 Canadian track and field athletes to compete in the Pan American Junior Championships beginning July 29 in Windsor, Ontario.
Youlton, a sophomore and native of Chatham, Ontario, will compete in the long jump for the Canadian team, which will feature athletes and coaches from 10 of the country's 13 provinces and territories.
In a release on the Championships' Web site, Canadian head coach Dennis Fairall said, “I believe that Canada will field a very strong junior team. The meet will be one of the most competitive in the history of the Championships."
The release also says the Championships are expecting the highest country turnout ever, with 44 out of a possible 45 nations competing.
In her freshman year at YSU, Youlton was named the Field Performer of the Meet at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships by winning the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 4 1/4 inches and the triple jump with a mark of 36-5 3/4. She broke two school records at the outdoor conference meet, placing second in the triple jump with a mark of 38-6 and third in the long jump with a mark of 18-6.
Previously at the national level, Youlton won the long jump and placed second in the triple jump at the Canadian Junior Track & Field National Championship.
