Youlton to Compete in Pan American Junior Championships for Team

Youngstown -- Youngstown State's Carly
Youlton will be one of 75 Canadian
track and field athletes to compete
in the Pan American Junior
Championships beginning July 29 in
Windsor, Ontario.
Youlton, a sophomore and native of Chatham, Ontario, will
compete in the long jump for the
Canadian team, which will feature
athletes and coaches from 10 of the
country's 13 provinces and
territories.
In a release on the Championships' Web site, Canadian head
coach Dennis Fairall said, “I
believe that Canada will field a
very strong junior team. The meet
will be one of the most competitive
in the history of the
Championships."
The release also says the Championships are expecting the
highest country turnout ever, with
44 out of a possible 45 nations
competing.
In her freshman year at YSU, Youlton was named the Field
Performer of the Meet at the Horizon
League Indoor Track and Field
Championships by winning the long
jump with a mark of 18 feet, 4 1/4
inches and the triple jump with a
mark of 36-5 3/4. She broke two
school records at the outdoor
conference meet, placing second in
the triple jump with a mark of 38-6
and third in the long jump with a
mark of 18-6.
Previously at the national level, Youlton won the long jump
and placed second in the triple jump
at the Canadian Junior Track & Field
National Championship. |
