Davis, Four Ladies Post Victories in Final Tune-Up Meet
Akron, Ohio -- Jarrod Davis
finished first and broke his school
record in the hammer while four
members of the women's squad won
individual events at the
Campbell/Wright Open in Youngstown
State's final meet before this
weekend's Horizon League
Championship.
Davis recorded a mark of 190-9 for the victory and hit the
NCAA regional qualifying mark for
the fourth time this season.
According to Trackshark.com, Davis'
mark ranks 14th in the Mideast
Region and 59th nationally.
Satara Freeman ran a winning time of 14.25 in the 100 hurdles
and placed third in the 400 hurdles
(1:07.03) to pace the women's squad.
Yandeh Joh took the top spot in the
400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.17
and added a fourth-place finish in
the 100 hurdles (14.80). Jeanna
Cunningham ran a time of 55.51 to
win the 400, and Emily Cicero added
a first-place time of 12:28.06 in
the steeplechase.
In the field events, Bethany Anderson placed third in the
hammer with a mark of 168-2 and
fourth in the shot put with a mark
of 44-7. Katy Williams added a
fifth-place mark of 158-11 in the
hammer, and Jen Grayson finished
fourth in the high jump with a mark
of 5-5.
On the men's side, Jeremiah Wright was the top individual
finisher in the running events with
a fourth-place time of 10.99 in the
100. He also teamed up with Scott
Streiner, Clarence Howell and
Da'Michael Horne to finish third in
the 4x100 relay.
Howell placed second in triple jump with a mark of 40-7, and
Martin Vieth and Michael Perri
finished fourth and fifth in the
high jump with marks of 6-2 3/4 and
6-0 3/4, respectively. Aaron Merrill
placed fourth in the shot put with a
personal-best mark of 52-8 1/4, and
Derek Riker finished fifth in the
pole vault with a mark of 14-7 1/4.
The women's squad will look to win its third straight Horizon
League outdoor title when the
championship starts on Thursday at 9
a.m. in Indianapolis. |
