Anderson Hits
Hammer Regional Qualifying Mark at
Duke Invitational

Youngstown State junior thrower
Bethany Anderson broke the school
record and automatically qualified
for the NCAA Mideast Regional in the
hammer at the Duke Invitational.
Anderson, who was named the Horizon League Indoor Track and
Field Athlete of the Year two weeks
ago, is the first female thrower in
school history to hit the automatic
qualifying mark. Her distance of
178'6" was the top among collegiate
athletes at the meet and broke her
old record by more than three feet.
Sophomore Dan Nemergut broke the school record in the 3,000m
with a time of 9:03.08 to highlight
the men's performances.
In her first outdoor meet, Alisha Anthony placed third in the
long jump with a mark of 18' 1/2",
which ranks fourth in school
history. Kari Kreutzfeld and Ashley
Oliver finished sixth and seventh in
the 200m, and Kreutzfeld added an
18th-place time of 59.11 in the 400m
that ranks 10th in school history.
Aaliyah Gillespie finished third in the prelims of the 100m
hurdles in her first meet in nearly
two years but did not run in the
finals. Marielle Glanz, Jennifer
Roman, Darcelle Formby and Amy Hill
added top-15 finishes for the
women's squad.
Scott Streiner was the top men's placer with a fifth-place
finish in the 200m, and he added a
20th-place finish in the 400m.
Shayne York placed ninth in the long
jump and 11th in the triple jump,
and Mike Perri and Marty Vieth
finished 11th and 13th in the high
jump. York's mark of 22'3.5" was a
personal-best and ranks him sixth in
school history.
Dominic DeFilippo placed 14th in the hammer and 20th in the
discus while Drew Weizer was 19th in
the hammer. DeFilippo, who competed
in his first outdoor meet for YSU
after transferring from Robert
Morris, ranks eight all-time in the
hammer with his mark of 137'11".
The Penguins will compete at the Sea Ray Relays at the
University of Tennessee this
weekend. |
