Anderson Wins
Twice, Gillespie Captures Third
Hurdles Title at League Meet
Indianapolis -- Bethany Anderson
won two throwing events and Aaliyah
Gillespie won the 100m hurdles for
the third time in her career to lead
the Youngstown State women's track
team to a second-place finish at the
Horizon League Championships.
Anderson remained undefeated in the shot put in her
three-year career and won the hammer
for the second-straight year. The
Penguins' second-place finish broke
their string of three-straight
outdoor titles.
Shayne York was the top individual finisher for the
sixth-place men's team with a
second-place mark of 44-11 1/2 in
the triple jump.
Anderson won hammer by 16 feet with a mark of 175-8, and her
heave of 45-5 in the shot put was
tops by nearly three feet. The
junior thrower also placed third in
the discus with a distance of 135-3.
Gillespie's time of 14.79 was the top by .18 seconds.
In the sprints, Darcelle Formby finished second in both the
100m (12.32) and the 200m (24.81),
and Kari Kreutzfeld finished second
by a half-second out of first in the
400m (56.57). Katie Betts added a
third-place finish in the 200m
(24.89) and a fourth-place finish in
the 100m (12.39). Jennifer Roman and
Emily Wollet finished fifth and
sixth in the 400m.
Roman, Formby, Betts and Kreutzfeld won the 4x400m relay
Madelyn McGhee was the top distance runner with a fifth-place
time of 43:17.19 in the 10,000m.
Amy Hill and Alexis Hall finished second (159-4) and third in
the hammer (154-3), and Jacquline
Clonch placed fourth in the discus
(131-9). Lindsey Hill finished
fourth in the javelin (111-8) and
fifth in the discus (127-6), and
Lindsay Cobey was sixth the hammer
(150-7). Robyn Ray finished fifth in
the triple jump and the high jump.
In the men's sprints, Scott Streiner and Eric Baltputnis
finished third (11.09) and fourth
(11.14) in the 100m. The same
combination also finished third and
fifth in the 200m, and Dan Nemergut
finished fourth in the steeplechase
(9:51.79). J.D. Sheppard added a
sixth-place finish in the 800m
(1:57.37), and Justin Dickman placed
sixth in the 10,000m (33:52.50).
Sheppard, Jerome Jefferey, Clarence Howell and Streiner
teamed up to place second in the
4x400m relay, and Baltputnis,
Streiner, York and Clarence Howell
finished third in the 4x100m.
In the field, York added a third-place leap of 22-6 1/4 in
the long jump, and Dom DeFilippo was
third in the hammer (160-0). Kyle
Muir (133-6) and Drew Weizer (132-4)
finished fifth and sixth in the
discus, and Marty Vieth added a
fifth-place finish in the high jump
(6-1 1/2). |
