Five Penguins to
Compete in Multi-Event Championships
This Weekend
Youngstown --
Five student-athletes will look to
give the Youngstown State track and
field teams an early boost at the
Horizon League Championships when
they compete in the multi-events
this weekend in Indianapolis.
Shayne York, Mike Perri and Kyle Muir will be three of seven
competitors in the decathlon, and
Yandeh Joh and Robyn Ray will be two
of seven women competing in the
heptathlon. The top six placers in
each event score points.
The two-day affair starts on Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern at
IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Track
Complex with the 100-meters section
of the decathlon. The heptathlon
will begin an hour later with the
100-meters, and both events will
conclude Saturday afternoon. Points
accumulated this weekend will be
added to the team total for the
Horizon League Championships, which
will be held on YSU's campus on May
8-9.
Joh was the Horizon League champion in the pentathlon during
the indoor season while Ray finished
fourth. Neither has competed in the
eight-section event during their
career.
Only Muir competed in the men's heptathlon during the indoor
season, finishing eighth. Perri
competed in the decathlon as a
freshman in 2006, and he finished
fourth with 4,567 points.
The rest of the squad will compete in one final meet leading
up to the main portion of the
conference championships. The
sprinters will compete at the Toledo
Invitational on Friday, and the
throwers will compete at the Butler
Twilight on Saturday. |
