Aaron Merrill Named Third-Team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America

Youngstown -- Aaron Merrill was named third-team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America organization announced on Thursday. Merrill becomes the 11th YSU student-athlete to garner Academic All-America honors and first since 2006.

Merrill (Leetonia, Ohio) had a standout performance during the outdoor campaign in 2009 while he redshirted during the indoor slate.

Merrill placed eighth at the Mideast Regionals with a school-record distance of 17.93m in the shot put. At the Horizon League Outdoor Championships he won the shot and the discus, while placing second in the hammer.
A graduate student at YSU, Merrill owns a degree in Criminal Justice where he finished with a 3.77 grade-point average.

YSU had two Academic All-America selections in the spring of 2006 when throw Jarrod Davis was named first-team and baseball standout Brandon Caipen was a second-team honoree. Merrill joins Davis as the only two track and field athletes to be named Academic All-American in school history.
