Ron Allen
- Men's
Basketball/Baseball (1961-64)
- Inducted
1990
When you look at an athlete’s
bloodline, the Allen family from Wampum, PA has to
be considered one of tops as no less than three
brothers made it to the major leagues, and one of
those, Ron, left his mark at Youngstown State
University as one of just 23-1,000 point scorers
for head coach Dom Rosselli’s cagers. Brothers
Rochie (later known as Dick) and Hank made it to
the majors first. But it was Ron who made the
biggest impact as his first hit was a home run in
1972 for the St. Louis Cardinals. While at
Youngstown State from 1961 to 1964, he led the
penguins to a 58-24 overall ledger and his 1,001
career points rank him 23rd on the all
time scoring list. He currently lives in Glen
Burning, Maryland where he is an owner/trainer of
race horses. His most famous entry, Northern Wolf,
a sixth place finisher in the 1989 Kentucky Derby.
Ron married the former Marthella Stewart, the
couple has four children: Tracy, Andrea, Ronald and
Lymara. |
