Shives Named Horizon League
Defensive Player of the Week

Youngstown State freshman Laurie
Shives (Grove City, Ohio) was named
the Horizon League's Defensive
Player of the Week for the week of
Oct. 15, the league announced on
Monday.
Shives played a vital role in YSU’s
split last week. She totaled 45 digs
in two matches and averaged 5.00
digs per game while lacing three
aces last week.
Shives, who has recorded double
figures in digs 15 times, collected
23 digs in a four-game win over
Wright State and 22 in five-game
loss to Butler. She has also tallied
at least 20 digs on seven occasions,
including five of the last six
matches, and owns a career-high of
27 against Butler on Sept. 14.
For the season, Shives leads the
Penguins with 297 digs and a 3.67
digs per game average. She ranks
ninth in the Horizon League overall
but eighth in the League with 4.20
digs per game against Horizon League
opponents.
The Penguins visit Green Bay,
Friday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. |
