Indianapolis, Ind.  -- Youngstown State freshman Laurie Shives (Grove City, Ohio) was named the Horizon League's Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15, the league announced on Monday.

She has also tallied at least 20 digs on seven occasions, including five of the last six matches, and owns a career-high of 27 against Butler on Sept. 14.

For the season, Shives leads the Penguins with 297 digs and a 3.67 digs per game average. She ranks ninth in the Horizon League overall but eighth in the League with 4.20 digs per game against Horizon League opponents.

The Penguins visit Green Bay, Friday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m.
