Penguins'
Volleyball Signs Three Players to
2009 Squad
Youngstown
-- A setter, an outside hitter
and a middle blocker have signed a
National Letter of Intent to
continue their academic and
volleyball careers at Youngstown
State University, YSU head
volleyball coach Joe Bonner
announced.
Angie Roidt (McFarland, Wis.), Suzanne Lasseigne (Virginia
Beach, Va.) and Martina Davis (Penn
Hills, Pa.) will all join the
Penguins’ for the 2009 season.
Roidt was named to the PrepVolleyball.com Senior Aces list,
which recognizes the top 250 seniors
in the nation. She was a unanimous
Rock Valley first-team
all-conference selection at
McFarland High School as a senior,
and she was a two-time first-team
All-Badger South honoree as a
sophomore and junior. Roidt was the
Spartans’ co-Offensive Player of the
Year as a senior, and the Offensive
Player of the Year as a junior when
she led the team in assists, kills
and aces. She started all four years
at McFarland – her first two as an
outside hitter and her second two at
setter. Roidt was also named to the
Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches
Association All-Academic Team as a
freshman.
“Angie is a catalyst for energy on the court,” Bonner said.
“She has spent the last several
years training with some of the best
setting coaches in the country.”
Lasseigne is a 5-foot-10 outside hitter who was named the
district player of the year at
Princess Anne High in Virginia
Beach, Va. She was a first-team
all-district and all-region honoree
her final three seasons, and she was
a second-team all-state selection as
a junior. She helped lead the
Cavaliers to its first-ever state
tournament appearance as a junior,
when she set the Beach District
single season kill record. Lasseigne
was the team co-MVP as freshman and
sophomore.
“Suzanne has a very calm presence about her, and she was the
leader on both her high school and
club teams,” Bonner said. “She is a
very talented outside hitter that
does well both in the front row
attacking and in the back row
defending.”
Davis is a 6-foot middle blocker who was a team captain for
the Penn Hills Indians as the lone
senior on the squad.
“Martina comes from a very athletic family and will be looked
upon to compete in the middle,”
Bonner said. “She is very quick
laterally to close blocks, and she
has a quick arm.” |
